It worked for me! May 3, 2005 Miss Jenn (Alaska) 68 out of 69 found this review helpful
I have never had serious skin problems- just the occassional outbreaks that I thought were normal for a woman my age with eczema. Now I know that my diet contributed to my skin problems. How do I know this? I can see the difference on my entire body.
I did not go on the day by day prescribed diet he offers. Instead I read what was good and not so good and modified my diet and many of my favorite old recipes accordingly. Not only have I lost weight, but my cellulite (which I even had at 100lbs) is all but gone! My face looks clearer and I have stopped using foundation because I actually like the way my complexion looks naturally now.
Maybe, as one person said, there isn't a plethora of studies to back his theories up but the "experts" haven't been able to agree for a long time what is good for you. This diet advice actually makes sense, which is nice for a change. My body doesn't care if this has been conclusively proven or not and frankly, neither do I. I sleep better, I feel better and I look as good as I feel. That's good enough for me.
If you've tried other things without much success, you might as well try this one too. The food tastes great, you never feel deprived, and you just might get the same results as lots of other satisfied customers.
Just pick one book May 16, 2005 Hope (INDIANA) 82 out of 85 found this review helpful
Actually, all of Dr. Perricone's books should have a 5 star rating, but please, don't waste your money buying all of his books like I did. I liked the first one so well that I bought all of his other books. I thought there'd be some updated info, maybe some new recipes. They are all basically the same book, some word for word, with different titles. One book is definitel worth the money though. You feel better and look better in as little as 3 or 4 days just by following the diet without the supplements. I'm a bit leery of the expensive supplements. His supplements seem overpriced. Maybe there really is a difference in quality, I don't know. If I'm going to shell out hundreds of dollars a month for supplements, they'd better make a BIG difference, and one that I can see and feel right away.
I Like It January 7, 2005 Savethetoys (Ca United States) 52 out of 53 found this review helpful
I picked up a copy of this book just before Christmas. No I cannot afford the Facial products he sells but I went to my local health food store and spotted items with similar ingredients.
No I have not used the recipes either, but he lays out a good explanation of what supplements are needed, why, what foods contain them, what they do, etc.
He also gives a list of inflammatory and inflammatory foods. And something I have found with this diet, I can find things to eat that are tasty!
A lot of salmon, eggs, brocolli, spinach, avocados, pomegranite juice, almonds, green salads, olive oil, oatmeal, green tea....
You get the idea, he has given me some great stepping stones to get going. I have not altered my diet 100% but have added most of the foods, I did buy his supplements for skin to try for one month(the shipping is free) but you can go out and buy all of your own and he does list each supplement needed in the book.
Okay so progress? I have to tell you, applying Vitamin A to my acne has worked WONDERS, my skin is already so much better, it looks clear on my face and almost glowy!
And Im in my early 30s and had acne since I was a teen.
The recipes are not practical either for my situation, but you can be creative with many of the things he does list.
Acne & Clear Skin Presciption = Dietary Enlightenment December 30, 2004 Naweko San-Joyz (San Diego, CA) 58 out of 63 found this review helpful
Dr. Nicholas Perricone has masterfully changed the way we look at skin and beauty for the better. Years ago, you'd have to twist someone's arm to convince them that diet plays a huge role in clear skin. Though the diet/acne subject remains heated even among dermatologists I am relieved that Dr. Perricone sets forth the connection between diet and clear skin.
Nutrition is a complex and personal subject. Dr. Perricone takes on a monumental task in helping people achieve clear skin through diet. The inclusion of Dr. Perricone's anti-inflammatory diet is admirable because one of the thousands of possible causes of acne includes dietary irritation.
A diet that causes inflammation weakens the immune system. Once the immune system is weaken, the skin is more sensitive to irritants both internal (antibodies resulting from food allergies) and external (toxins in the air and arriving from surface contact).
Along with the anti-inflammatory diet, Dr. Perricone educates the reader about the importance of vitamins and minerals to relieving acne. Once you know how a diet impacts your visage, you are more likely to abide by a beautifying diet, regardless of its daunting appearance.
It may seem cumbersome to alter you diet as Dr. Perricone suggests. But I have spoken with individuals who have used portions of Dr. Perricone's advice with pleasing results.
In terms of context, The Clean Skin Prescription is almost identical to the Acne Prescription. I would recommend this book to all skin care professionals largely because I have entered spas where the estheticians did not think diet had anything to do with acne. Additionally, if you are suffering with acne, Dr. Perricone's book is an empowering and practical guide for attaining clear skin. Lastly, I suggest Dr. Perricone's material to the individual who questions the link between a balanced diet and beautifully radiant skin.
Huge money saver! January 12, 2005 Catherine Sullivan (Los Angeles, CA) 35 out of 38 found this review helpful
Think of all the $$ you've spent over the years trying to get your skin to clear up and most of the time, it just made it worse. For the cost of one skin care product that will probably do the same, you could buy this book. With just a quick skim you will get advice worth far more. The bulk of the text is more about biology/chemistry than "skin care". My favorite aspect is the detailed explanations of how diet, excercise and supplements affect your cells. If you're interested in beginning yoga, it's got an entire detailed/illustrated chapter about that too. I've only tried two suggestions so far (drinking green tea and taking alpha lipoic acid) and my skin looks much better already! Contrary to popular belief you do not need to cut out caffine OR coffee. I still have my morning coffee but replace a few cups a day with green tea, which contains plenty of caffine!
